Blahnik founded his brand in 1971 in London after buying the shoe company he was working for, the Zapata Shoe Company, with a loan for £2,000. He opened his first boutique on Church Street in the Chelsea district of Britain’s capital city and swiftly became a prominent figure in the luxury footwear world. From there, he went on to open his first American storefront in New York in 1979. Today, the label has boutiques the world over, in major cities including Madrid, Barcelona, Moscow, Dubai, Hong Kong, Seoul, Singapore, Tokyo, London, and New York.
