In typical Rick Owens fashion, his Spring/Summer collection is abstract and avant-garde, playing with different textures and silhouettes in each look. Layering was a crucial step in each look, with details like a red bra top underneath the white mesh, and leather vests over long, draping mesh dresses. Thigh-high, platform boots add to each look, with large cut-outs and buckles on each side.
In each look, there’s a detail that can’t be ignored, with large turtlenecks and ultra-wide shoulder pads. Inspired by fog, Owens uses fog as an element in each look, with mesh and ultra-thin nylon floating through cutouts, layers, and trains.
The accessories and the details in each piece are what truly shows the genius of Owens, with chokers made by the jewelry house Goosens, knits with removable hoods and arms, denim skirts made of custom Japanese denim. At-home fog machines are used in the show, ranging from pocket to coffee table size. These details are rooted in finding the beauty in everything after COVID-19 derailed Owens’ traditional fashion shows in the past year, and how he himself found the beauty during a difficult time.
Not only are the clothes reminiscent of the hedonistic view of finding beauty, but the set of the show also played a custom electronic mix, produced by Mochipet that was harsh and loud, made to portray the reflections of Owens. Models like Owens’ wife, Michèle Lamy, walk through jasmine leaves from Owens’ home, reminiscent of the time of the shows that he had there during the pandemic. This show is truly a love letter to the future of fashion after a year of strife.
