Pride month is only a couple of weeks ahead and, to commemorate, Calvin Klein is continuing their #proudinmycalvins campaign, this year spotlighting the LGBTQIA+ community through potent storytelling and a Pride 2021 collection.
Enveloped in a series of short films and photos, the campaign is “a celebration of defining moments in the queer and trans journey” and “revisits the transformative events that shaped the lives of talent from different parts of the world at different moments in time” the brand noted in a press release. Diversity is apparent in its eight member cast – Isaac Cole, Kai Isaiah Jamal, King Princess, Omar Ayuso, Raisa Flowers, Samuel de Saboia, Arca, and CR’s Issue 18 cover star and guest editor, Honey Dijon – that reflects on their individual experiences, from feelings of liberation and romance to self-expression, within the LGBTQIA+ community.
Alongside the initiative’s empowering messaging, Calvin Klein also announced a two year partnership with the Trevor Project, “the world’s largest suicide prevention and crisis intervention organization for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and questioning young people”. Through this alliance, Calvin Klein will raise awareness on the organization’s mental health services and resources and will continue to promote LGBTQIA+ inclusion. The Trevor Projects joins the Transgender Legal Defense & Education Fund, the BlaQ Aboriginal Corporation, and ILGA World (International Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans and Intersex Association) on the list of inclusive organizations that Calvin Klein supports.
In true Calvin Klein fashion, the collection itself encompasses the laissez-faire, authentic attitude signature to the brand. The Pride 2021 capsule includes unisex apparel, underwear, swim, and accessories that are reworked with colors and prints and come in extended sizing. In addition to their individual videos, the cast is photographed and styled in the collection. Click through the gallery to view the capsule.
