As we dream up a post-pandemic world, it’s finally time to have fun with fashion again. The L.A.-based Mulleavy sister-duo behind Rodarte embrace texture, bold colors, and romantic prints in a easy-breezy fantasy-scape set on a California beach for their Fall/Winter 2021 collection.
Shot by Todd Cole, the collection features familiar faces such as Aurora James of fashion label Brother Vellies, model Heather Kemesky, and Clueless star Alicia Silverstone. They pose together under the California sun in dramatic accessories of latex opera gloves, wide hats decked in feathers and net veils, elegant parasols, and weighty floral jewelry.
The looks feature a range of styles from the tried-and-true bomber jacket with embroidered patches, to romantic and flowy silhouettes, and even 90’s-piped neon pantsuits that Cher Horowitz would pluck from her own digital closet (Silverstone nods to her iconic 1995 character in look 31).
Rodarte explores shiny sequins and effortless draping in silver and hot purple, where the models stand effortlessly regal in both barefeet and knee-high latex boots as the clear tide rolls in. Like Cher, Rodarte isn’t afraid to click “Mis-Match!” with fall fashions, in a post-quarantine-loungewear era that had fashion lovers “totally buggin’.”
