Meet the 2021 LVMH Prize Finalists

START body

Who’s going to be the next big name in fashion?

For the eighth year in a row, LVMH is continuing to foster young fashion talent, creativity, and innovation in its Prize for Young Fashion Designers. After paring down the original 1,900 candidates to just 20 semi-finalists, the jury has announced its finalists. Nine designers, including two equally ranked semi-finalists, will go on to compete in the final of the LVMH Prize.

“The all-digital semi-final this year, in the context of the health crisis, was a new opportunity to showcase the work of the designers. I would like to salute their creativity, optimism and reactivity, and congratulate them all,” said Delphine Arnault, director and executive vice president of Louis Vuitton. “I particularly appreciated their great know-how and their strong environmental awareness.”

Sixty-six experts are involved in voting on the finalists, including CR’s very own Carine, and fashion icons like Bella Hadid and Karlie Kloss. For the first time ever, voting in the semi-final was also open to the public: 32,000 people voted for their favorite candidate.

This year, finalists come from China, France, South Africa, the United Kingdom, and the United States and, for the first time, from Albania and Colombia. Past winners have included brands that have since become household names, including Thebe Magugu, Marine Serre, Grace Wales Bonner, Vejas, and Jacquemus.

Some finalists were quick to share their excitement. Conner Ives wrote on Instagram, “What I am doing right now I’ve dreamed of since I was 5 years old… Each day is a gift because I get to do what I love. I am so humbled by that. It fills me with so much exuberance [and] so much drive. I worked so hard for this. So thank you; to the LVMH prize committee, to all of you that voted for me, to my loyal friends that put up with me day in and day out and the incredible, small loyal Conner Ives team I have come to spend nearly every day with. Everything I do is so personal; that moments like these can become so overwhelming. But my heart is so full.”

Bianca Saunders also shared the news on Instagram. “I’ve never been more scared and proud to be myself as I can not predict what blessings the future holds! Thank you to my entire team for constantly being patient and supportive. I love you all. To all the late nights and the doubting thoughts! It makes going forward and trusting my vision much more worth it,” she wrote.

Regardless of the outcome, we’re on the edge of our seats to see what all of these finalists will do in the future. The final and the announcement of the winners will be in September 2021 at the Louis Vuitton Foundation. See the nine finalists below.
