I’m sure we don’t have to keep telling you that since the start of lockdown, our closets have needed some serious R&R. Our purses especially have been through the ringer this past year with the insides being stuffed to the brim with our ever growing checklist of masks, hand sanitizer, wet wipes, and gloves — and don’t get us started on our precious leather fabrics getting repeatedly sprayed down with antibacterial Lysol spray. Gone were the days of baby bags and hard to clean plush purses. Check in on the world now, however, and our post vaccinated selves are ready to get back out there with a trusty new bag right by our side. We can already smell that leathery new-bag smell.
Alexander McQueen’s Spring/Summer 2021 collection focused on “the beauty of the bare bones of clothing stripped back to its essence.” It was there that we caught our first glimpse of their new Curve bag — nonchalantly centered on a crowded picnic blanket next to a half-eaten charcuterie board. Now, we love picked over brie and crackers just as much as the next guy, but the root of our excitement lied within the enticing new bag shape dreamed up by Creative Director Sarah Burton.
The sturdy Curve bag, which launched today, might be our favorite new It-bag that’s sure to stand out from the rest. The strong, contemporary design by McQueen is as if a bucket bag and crescent bag were fused into one. Leave it to the British fashion house to figure out how to make a design both structured and rounded. Crafted from 100% Italian Calf Leather, the shape is configured into a bucketed silhouette and features a curved top flap opening fitted with a magnetic closure and embossed seal signature logo. Two alternating padded straps that twist around the design adorn the exterior as a direct nod to the corsetry and harness elements central to McQueen collections. Coming in a candy colored palette with hues like a juicy red, cotton candy blue, honeypot yellow, zesty green, and of course the classic blacks and whites, they’re sure to be a look for every occasion and style.
Model and Actress duo Ali and Salem Mitchell opted for a classic black bag while soon-to-be Buttercup in the Powder Puff Girls reboot Yana Perrault styled her tan Curve for a stylish day in the sun. While they both opted to keep the straps cross body, the bag can also be easily adjusted to transform into over the shoulder.
From all the evolutions the everyday bag has undergone, this is a bucket bag that everyone needs to check off their bucket list.
