For the Spring/Summer 2021 season, the great outdoors have been imagined by various designers in a whole new way. Designer Craig Green’s latest collaboration as part of Moncler’s Genius collection sells big on a story of nature’s scaling presence in the rote of our daily lives – haltingly in and out lockdown orders.
Quite different from the duo’s first outing in 2017 with their “Capsule C” collection, Green and Moncler have turned a hand to the lean silhouettes of ripstop nylons, while some gabardine pipestems and French terry shorts, drawn at the waist, walk boudin quilted zip-ups and squarely pointed collars atop buttoned-up shirt jackets into the outdoors.
Captured in a brief carousel of images, 5 Moncler Craig Green was shot on the River Blackwater’s Osea Island in Essex, picking up the frisson of fashion en plein. It seemed potent and authentic, a masterfully deft take on outerwear crafted in equal parts function, utility, and cool.
Models, not overtaken by the overt presence of Green’s collection, turned their wears into some outsized, kite-like structures – a riff on Moncler’s latest monogram conceived alongside the Genius collection. A knotted coil of lines expanding the heritage logo to become something amphibia-like is tailored into intarsia-patchworks on the back of zip jackets and stitched into the face of Moncler Longue Saison’s quilts.
“There is a positivity in the monogram’s continuous flow,” said Green. Giving it “a feeling of new possibilities and the potential that can be found in nature.”
While indoor events may be forced off the calendar for the time being, Green and Moncler have tapped into nature and constructed the most perfect panels of quilting for life lived outside our homes.
