Oh, New York Fashion Week, we missed you.
While we’re excited at the news of the Council of Fashion Designers of America announced a return to physical shows in September for the Spring/Summer 2022 season, the even bigger news is that Pyer Moss is back.
Acclaimed designer Kerby Jean-Raymond announced a return to the catwalk after a nearly two year hiatus. The designer promised to show–titled Pyer Moss Collection 4 – during the second week of September, just days before the 2021 Met Gala.
The label’s last New York Fashion Week show, titled “American, Also.” debuted at the Brooklyn’s Kings Theater in front of 3,000 guests. Like most of Pyer Moss’ body of work, the show celebrated Blackness and the typical erasure of Black culture and musicians in the mainstream media. Earlier last year, the designer showed a feature-length fashion film of the same name chronicling the brand’s journey to creating its celebratory Spring/Summer 2020 show.
While Jean-Raymond may not have showcased physical presentations throughout the coronavirus pandemic, the designer remained at the top of fashion’s list, racking up accolades like American Menswear Designer of the Year at the 2020 CFDA Fashion Awards and heading up Reebok as its latest Global Creative Director. He also created several one-off releases, teaming up with the Innocence Project, the Gianna Floyd Fund, and luxury conglomerate Kering Group.
We can’t wait until September to see what Pyer Moss has up its sleeve.END
