We miss dancing. Approaching the one-year mark of what we first thought would be the “two-week quarantine,” we’re definitely not the only ones. Dries Van Noten reminds us not only that we miss it, but also how emotive dance can really be. With models and dancers showing off the Fall/Winter 2021 Ready-to-Wear collection with exaggerated dance moves and gestures rather than a traditional walk down the runway, we feel every emotion with them—from distress to release.
In line with that, there is a certain life to the pieces in this collection. Shot in an Antwerp studio, the clothes move with the dancers. From masculine hemlines and suits to glamorous, sparkly dresses and tunics, each piece came to life with the dancer, showing us that we can—and should—look forward to some Roaring Twenties-style style and glamour post-pandemic.
There’s a beautiful balance to this collection: it’s sophisticated while also fun. It’s romantic (note the gigantic bouquet of red roses in Look 1) and but not sappy. It’s dramatic while also serious. Safe to say, Dries Van Noten is seizing the moment and making us yearn for a post-pandemic, dance-filled world.
