The Louvre has been host to some of the most prolific artists of the past and present, and Cardi B now joins the ranks. In a new campaign unveiled today, the rapper graces the side of the world’s largest art museum by way of a giant Balenciaga billboard.
The Fall/Winter 2020 ad sees the “Wap” artist in a blunt black bob and a draped black asymmetrical gown hand selected by creative director Demna Gvasalia. Cardi–who once rapped about “those Balenciagas, the ones that look like socks”–lounges on a plot of grass, surrounded by yellow children’s toys. Amidst the chaotic jumble lies a crisp white Balenciaga Neo Classic handbag.
The eye-catching image was styled and photographed by Cardi herself in Los Angeles during the depths of lockdown. While this particular campaign may seem a bit more domestic than those Balenciaga ordinarily produces, the forthcoming array of images will feature the typical roster of the label’s close network including artist Eliza Douglas, a Balenciaga runway vet, in intimate settings like bedrooms and backyards.
Cardi’s billboard campaign will be housed on the Paris museum for the duration of September, along with locations in China, Taiwan, Thailand, Singapore, and South Korea.
