Balenciaga Supports Australian Wildfire Relief With Charitable Koala T-Shirt

START body

As bushfires continue to ravage across southeastern Australia, people and companies across the world have galvanized to help raise money and send aid to the country. In the fashion world, Balenciaga will join the effort by releasing a charitable t-shirt and hoodie printed with an illustrated koala on Monday, January 13. 100 percent of the proceeds from the sales of these will be donated to local conservation organizations selected by sustainability experts. It has been widely reported that over a billion animals have been killed in the fires, with koalas and kangaroos most emblematic of Australian wildlife.

Balenciaga’s holding group, Kering–which also owns Gucci, Yves Saint Laurent, Bottega Veneta, and other luxury names–donated one million Australian dollars (9,865 USD) to local organizations contributing to relief efforts this week. The company also stated that they would participate in future reforestation and biodiversity restoration for Australia. Kering is at the helm of sustainability in luxury fashion, overseeing the Fashion Pact coalition that is committed to combating global warming and protecting the environment.

American conglomerate PVH, which owns Tommy Hilfiger and Calvin Klein, also donated one million Australian dollars to the Australian Red Cross Disaster Recovery Fund.

The Balenciaga koala t-shirt and hoodie will be available to shop online on January 13, 2020.
