While next season’s fashion collections have us preparing to pile jewelry across our faces, a new project by Miami-based Miansai inspires perhaps a new focal point. Teaming up with sportswear heritage brand Fila, the contemporary jewelry brand debuts two new sneakers with stunning hardware appeal.
Launching today online, the Fila and Miansai limited edition sneakers combine sleek modernism with edgy elevation. Crafted out of premium leather and suede, the two styles feature distinctive embellishments: for Targa, the men’s version, the shoes boasts a neutral colorway with Fila’s dark gum sole and Miansai’s silver screw-cuff detailing across its back counter; while, for women, the Disruptor’s rope-inspired laces are matched by a tab with a miniature screw-on cuff in gold. Both sneakers have a nautical weave-printed sock lining—a nod, no doubt, to Miansai’s Miami culture.
“I take raw input and make refined output by using objects that might not necessarily be jewelry related and then make them into wearable classics, pulling inspiration from hardware, hinges and maritime elements,” explains Miansai’s founder Michael Saiger, who worked with his wife (and the brand’s fashion director) Rachael Russell to explore Fila’s archives, testing out variations and experimentations until they found a fit that felt current yet also lasting. For the sportswear brand, the collaboration marks its first metal-accessorized sneakers, and follows the very successful—albeit surprising—appearance on Fendi’s runway last fall.
FILA x Miansai’s Targa and Disruptor shoes are now available online now.END
