If you’ve been experiencing Kaia Gerber deprivation in the lull between Haute Couture and ready-to-wear, Karl Lagerfeld is here to help. The busy designer made the 16-year-old supermodel the face of his namesake label’s Fall 2018 campaign, which Carine styled. The new shoot showcases her versatility by having her embody yet another vision following a streak of spring campaigns, including Chanel, Saint Laurent, and Marc Jacobs Beauty.
Lagerfeld shot the campaign, which features Gerber posing in a classic studio setting while wearing logos, leather, and a thick headband to hold back voluminous hair. The fiercely chic vibes, fitting with Carine’s signature aesthetic, are somewhat reminiscent of the young model’s prior work with Saint Laurent and Alexander Wang. Additionally, some of the images are set against photos the designer took of Parisian architecture, which reveals just how much the city has inspired him (his recent Chanel couture show served as a love letter to Paris).
While the new shoot is generating excitement, as always with Gerber being Cindy Crawford‘s look-alike daughter, the best is yet to come for the breakout model this fall. In addition to several unreleased campaigns she’s sure to star in, not to mention the many forthcoming fashion week shows she’ll walk in, Karl Lagerfeld x Kaia is set to debut soon. This capsule collection, announced back in January, will have a separate campaign, and it will feature designs by Gerber herself—all at the age of 16 years old. It’s fitting that Lagerfeld would choose his collaborator to model his solo collection, as it showcases a genuine aesthetic alignment that’s lasted since she burst onto the scene.
In the quiet before next season’s fashion storm, the new Lagerfeld campaign allows Gerber fans and anyone who loves Paris to get a head start in plotting a bold wardrobe for fall.END
