Those in search of laid back surfer vibes need look no further than Robby Bain. The 18-year-old Australian, a fresh face on the modeling scene, grew up near the beach where he developed a love for the outdoors and a bright personality that brings instant calm to any bustling environment he enters. From his no-frills daily style to his sun-kissed locks, it’s no wonder Bain has a whirlwind Instagram scouting story. Last year, Wilhelmina Models discovered his effortlessly cool account and signed him, sparking a series of Down Under campaigns to start his career off in a fitting way. While the new model has yet to complete projects in the major fashion cities, his open perspective and definitive exhibition of the it factor means it’s only a matter of time before someone major picks him up. CR caught up with Bain for style musings, his favorite picks, and a lot of beach chatter.
What was your upbringing like?
I was born in Melbourne on the Sunshine Coast, and when I was three years old, I moved to Canberra, which is the capital of Australia, and lived there until I was about 12. Then, my family wanted to move back to the Queensland kind of area, coastal and stuff, and I’ve been living there until now, so 18. I’ve always been surfing, playing basketball, and I do a little boxing as well. I graduated school in 2016, year 12.
Do you have a favorite place to surf?
Probably my home break, Noosa Main Beach.
What’s your favorite food?
Acai bowls. I loved them back home so I’m pretty much addicted to them.
Is there a song you can’t get out of your head right now?
Probably Drake’s new single, “Nice for What.”
Who is your style icon?
I don’t really dress like A$AP Rocky, but I like how he presents himself.
What’s your favorite thing about Australia?
The surf, probably. The coastal towns, the long beaches. I like that whole kind of vibe.
What’s one thing in your wardrobe that you can’t live without?
Probably my wetsuit, for the winter when I’m surfing.
Do you have a go-to everyday look?
No. I don’t really care, to be honest. I’m just easygoing.
Where would you like to see your career go?
I don’t really have too high expectations at the moment. Just anywhere to be honest, I don’t really mind where I go. I’d like to do the fashion tour, like London, Milan, Paris, New York. That’s the goal.
Do you have any dream collaborations?
Tommy Hilfiger would be sick. Probably Calvin Klein, Prada, I don’t know, just all those big labels, I guess.
