All of the hard work that goes into haute couture, consisting of decadent fabrics, delicate beadwork, and custom-made gowns, can now be seen in a behind-the-scenes video for Schiaparelli’s Spring 2018 Couture collection, captured exclusively for CR.
The old-school couture house, which re-launched in 2013, has taken creative inspiration from founder Elsa Schiaparelli, surrealist favorite and famous rival of Coco Chanel. The Spring 2018 collection was inspired by Elsa’s 1938 Pagan Collection, according to Creative Director Bertrand Guyon, nodding back to the Surrealistic beetle necklace and gold leaf embroidery. The result was blouses emblazoned with bugs and trimmed with feathers, along with ethereal beaded gowns that seemed to flit down the runway as the models walked.
The making-of video features designers working with beading, feathers, chiffon, and tulle for designs behind the collection, comprising of a nude bustier dress beaded with small white pearls, golden butterflies splayed across a gauzy ballgown, and a white cape dress embroidered with Swarovski crystals. The other more contemporary looks included a tailored blazer over a chiffon pleated skirt and a punchy, geometric print jacket.END
