The whole fashion world has known Karl Lagerfeld as the iconic couturier that has changed fashion forever. Yet, not many have known Lagerfeld as well as his long-time bodyguard and assistant, Sébastien Jondeau. Lagerfeld’s right-hand man has published a tell-all memoir about his companionship with the late designer.
The book titled Ça Va, Cher Karl? (How are you, dear Karl?) that Jondeau wrote together with a French a Journalist Virginie Mouzat delves into 20 years of his work and friendship with Lagerfeld and features personal memories of how they both have met when Jondeau was just 15.
“I’ve worked for Karl for more than 16 years, since I was 23, but I’ve known him since I was 15. My stepfather ran an 18th-century furniture business that I worked for sometimes, and Karl was a big collector. I was always asking Karl questions. He knows everything, and he was so much cooler than I was. I wasn’t stupid, but I was curious. I came from a place in life where you don’t really know that much. I did silly, bad things when I was young; I have so many stories. I became close with Karl because I was funnier than the other guys. I did my job, but I asked questions, and he liked that” said Jondeau in an interview with Harper’s Bazaar.
Throughout the entire time working with Lagerfeld, Jondeau took part in some of his campaigns and photoshoots, as well as accompanied him to the red carpet events dressed by Lagerfeld himself. Now, like many of Lagerfeld’s other close friends and collaborators, Jondeau is now the ambassador for the Karl Lagerfeld brand keeping his great vision alive.
