It’s safe to say, a woman who holds her head upon a challenging journey to make an impact for other women will forever remain as rare and beautiful as any piece of couture. On International Women’s Day today, the house of Christian Dior celebrates strong women empowering and educating each other with the second launch installment of Dior Stands With Women featuring a powerful star-studded cast.
The female-lead initiative first launched in Fall 2020 with the mission of spotlighting female leaders with a partnership with Charlize Theron’s charity organization CTAOP (Charlize Theron Africa Outreach Project) founded in 2007 gearing towards providing scholarships for higher education to cultivate leaders om the Sub-Saharan African region. Past recipients have chosen to study in fields from law to physiotherapy to benefit their local communities. Theron’s organization is motivated more than ever to help during the coronavirus pandemic with the Parfums Christian Dior x CTAOP to support the educational cohort with the 2021 intake.
The first series we heard from Charlize Theron, Cara Delevingne, Marina Cavazzana, Golshifteh Farahani, Carole Biancalana, Pamela Tulizo, Leyna Bloom, Paloma Elsesser, Parris Gobel, and Yalitza Aparicio. The video series commits to its partnership with the UCLA Center For World Health and StudyTrust for the “Leaders of Tomorrow,” program to provide higher education to local communities to cover full tuition fees, travel expenses, food, books, and more for 15 students.
Under Maria Grazia Churi’s leadership, Dior continues to amplify the stories of women who are making an impact in their respected fields. The exceptional lineup of women for the second round of women includes the actress, producer, activist, and author Natalie Portman. The American model and LGBTQ activist Dilone. South Korean gold medal Olympian Yuna Kim, the French Iranian-Egyptian architect India Mahdavi, American actress Yara Shahidi from the series “Black-ish, ” Chinese actress and founder of the charitable organization L.O.V.E promoting an environmentally responsible lifestyle and Goodwill ambassador of the UN Environmental Program, Li BingBing, and the Franco-Moroccan journalist and writer Leila Slimani, who also is the personal representative of French President Emmanuel Macron of the International Organization of the Francophone and winner of the Goncourt Prize in 2016 for her novel Chanson Douce.
