Becoming Cindy Crawford – ts.kux.de

Becoming Cindy Crawford

START body

Before Karlie, Cara, or Kendall, there was Crawford—Cindy, the woman who has rightfully earned the title of supermodel. Anyone who came of age in the ‘90s with or without a passing interest in fashion knew the sultry, statuesque brunette with the athletic physique, the big hair, and the mole. She was inescapable, and her influence spanned seemingly all spheres of pop culture.

Those who never thumbed through an issue of Vogue might have ogled her (tasteful) spread in Playboy, or surely glimpsed her in that now-iconic Pepsi ad, or caught her shopping with rock stars on MTV’s “House of Style.” Mega-fans broke a sweat to Crawford’s “Shape Your Body” workout, mimicked her lip-synching in George Michael’s seminal, supermodel-filled “Freedom! ‘90” video, and gushed over her marriage to the equally sexy actor Richard Gere.

In the years since, Crawford hasn’t shied from the spotlight, but she has kept a decidedly lower profile. Remarried to entrepreneur Rande Gerber, she has two gorgeous children, Kaia and Presley. On the eve of her 50th birthday, Crawford remains a force to be reckoned with, an OG Influencer who successfully parlayed her passions and business savvy into brand alliances long before the advent of Instagram. The road to model-moguldom, including just about every detour on her journey form DeKalb, Illinois, to Malibu, is chronicled in “Becoming,” a coffee table tome out now from Rizzoli.

Featuring both unpublished images from Crawford’s personal archives as well as the work of a who’s-who of legendary lensmen—Herb Ritts, Richard Avedon, Patrick Demarchelier, and Arthur Elgort among them—the book documents an unparalleled career, shoot by shoot. Recalling her insecurities, fears, adventures, and triumphs, Crawford comes across as honest, down-to-earth, and eminently likeable.

Crawford dedicates the book to her husband and two children, one of whom, Kaia, is an admitted “mini-Cindy” and budding model. While Crawford herself spends markedly less time in front of the camera these days, she hasn’t shied away from allying herself with fellow supes. Just like Cara and Karlie, Crawford recently appeared in Taylor Swift’s epic “Bad Blood” video as “Headmistress,” schooling the next gen in how to smolder.
