Lady Gaga will reportedly be starring in an upcoming movie about one of fashion’s famous families. To be directed by Ridley Scott (Blade Runner, The Martian), the drama will chronicle the murder of Guccio Gucci’s grandson Maurizio Gucci, the one-time head of the Italian fashion house. Gaga will be portraying Patrizia Reggiani, the wife of the murdered Gucci heir.
Maurizio left Reggiani for a younger woman in 1985, after 12 years of marriage. Years later, Reggiani was convicted for arranging the assassination of her ex-husband, who was shot and killed by a hitman in 1995. Nicknamed the Black Widow, Reggiani’s trial garnered intense media attention and she was eventually sentenced to 29 years in prison. She served 18 years before her release in 2016.
Negotiations for Gaga’s casting in the movie are moving forward after first being reported in November 2019. This also follows the recent confirmation that MGM bought rights to the movie, which is slated to release on Thanksgiving 2021. Along with Scott’s direction and production, writer Roberto Bentivegna will pen the screenplay for the film based on a book called The House of Gucci: A Sensational Story of Murder, Madness, Glamour, and Greed by Sara Gay Forden.
This project marks the second time Gaga’s name has been connected to a screen adaptation of a fashion family’s story. It was previously rumored that Gaga would star as Donatella Versace Ryan Murphy’s American Crime Story: The Assasination of Gianni Versace, but the role ultimately went to Penélope Cruz.END
