L’Oreal has been on a hiring spree over the past year. In an attempt to diversify the brand and stay relevant to an increasingly millennial global consumer, the cosmetics giant has announced several new faces including African model, Maria Borges and its first transgender ambassador, Hari Nef. And the brand has been adding more unconventional models to its roster—the most recent example is the once-controversial French face, Thylane Blondeau, who ignited controversy back in 2011 when she appeared in Vogue Paris wearing what was thought to be “adult” makeup at age 10. Blondeau is the daughter of French footballer Patrick Blondeau and television presenter Veronika Loubry.
News of her becoming L’Oreal’s latest brand ambassador came on her 16th birthday yesterday. In her new role, Blondeau will tap into her one-million-plus Instagram following, as well as make official appearances in campaigns for L’Oreal’s hair, makeup, and skincare categories. It’s been be reported that her first appearance will be in ads for the brand’s Hydra Genius range of moisturizers.
