Rami Malek is the latest addition to Saint Laurent’s cool-kid lineup of campaign stars. The award-winning actor follows Keanu Reeves, Travis Scott, and Zoë Kravitz as the face of the French fashion house. In the Spring/Summer 2020 men’s campaign, the Mr. Robot actor dons Saint Laurent skinny-fit staples including tailored jackets and pants with metallic details. Again working with photographer David Sims to bring his vision to life, Anthony Vaccarello’s predominantly black-and-white campaign channels the same effortless energy as its predecessors.
Following Malek’s performance as Freddie Mercury in Bohemian Rhapsody, the actor channels another musical titan in Sergeant Pepper-esque jackets reminiscent of The Beatles’ “Lonely Hearts Club Band” uniforms. Music icons are a familiar influence in Vaccarello’s collections, as The Rolling Stones’ rock ‘n’ roll style was also referenced in the Saint Laurent Spring/Summer 2020 men’s collection.
The actor, who plays the new Bond villain in the upcoming movie No Time to Die, also signifies Vaccarello’s turn towards Hollywood. In addition to tapping of-the-moment actors for campaigns, the creative director took the last men’s runway show to Malibu and has continued building on the polished legacy of the LA-based era of Hedi Slimane’s Saint Laurent.END
