Hedi Slimane continues to rack up his firsts at Celine. Ahead of the Celine Spring/Summer 2019 collection hitting stores in February, the fashion house’s artistic, creative, and image director has released the first Celine men’s campaign. The video, which features men wearing looks from the Spring/Summer 2019 collection titled “Paris La Nuit,” also coincides with the recent announcement that Celine will show during Men’s Fashion Week Paris in January 2019. It will be the fashion house’s debut on the men’s calendar.
The new campaign stays true to Slimane’s sleek rock and roll aesthetic, shot in black and white and juxtaposing images of men wearing the Spring/Summer 2019 collection with clips of retro TV monitors, keyboards, and other nostalgic objects. Set to the 1985 dance track “Polaroïd/Roman/Photo” by Ruth, the three-minute long video underscores the common thread Slimane likes to draw between fashion and music. Slimane’s consistency and confidence in his slick, androgynous aesthetic are apparent in the polished images, which were captured in October. Although it’s being advertised as the men’s campaign, Slimane continues to reiterate, as he did when the collection hit the runway, that each of the menswear looks are completely unisex. As he pioneers a new era at Celine, he continues to explore his own established codes, reiterating the glossy, moody, and glamorous creations we’ve come to expect from Slimane.END
