In fashion, if you aren’t yourself, you’re nobody. This portfolio captures supernatural scenarios featuring some of today’s truest originals—women and men who remain completely and unflinchingly themselves. Madness, majorness, and all manner of diving fashion moments immediately ensue. Pamela Anderson, wearing a Céline bodysuit, suggestively sidles up to her vanity mirror in preparation for a probably libidinous rendezvous; Diane von Furstenberg throws one of her patented, all-knowing sidelong glance; British actress Suki Waterhouse luxuriates in a key Louis Vuitton look from creative director Nicolas Ghesquière’s Fall debut; and Dutch model Valentijn De Hingh, sporting a seductive lace-up dress by Dior, faces an unfashionable object of questionable nutritional value: the hot dog. Elsewhere, Miu Miu’s orange and red plastic raincoats prove as juicy-fruity as the melting popsicles held by JiHye Park and Xiao Wen Ju. Liya Kebede cuts a chic figure in Givenchy’s striking animal-print coats, designed by Riccardo Tisci, then clowns around in nowhere-near-basic black Christopher Kane. Lindsey Wixson stalks the streets in Versace, while Jacquelyn Jablonski loiters stylishly in Tom Ford. Together, these images reinforce the necessity of character, the force of fantasies made flesh, and the power of identity.
