Alexander McQueen Muses Throughout History

START

With an aptitude for larger-than-life fashion shows and meaningful collections, Alexander McQueen is widely considered one of the most prolific designers of his time. From fire circles to wind tunnels to mirror-filled rooms, McQueen found comfort in telling a story through theatrics. Outside of his own name brand, McQueen took the helm at Givenchy in 1996 where he ripped up the rule book on traditional French fashion before departing in 2001. Although the designer tragically took his own life in 2010, the fashion world continues to recognize the talent and art he showcased during his life. After his passing, his former intern-turned-right-hand, Sarah Burton, was appointed creative director of his brand. Burton continues to pay tribute to McQueen’s legacy, while also incorporating her own vision into each collection. CR looks back at the women who inspired some of the fashion house’s most outstanding work.
