Catwalker Ashleigh Good has lived out a fairytale story that most girls only dream of—she went from being a waitress in Auckland to a Givenchy Fall 2012 exclusive. She has since gone on to become a regular at the major runway shows, appearing at Burberry, Christopher Kane, and J.W. Anderson, and Mary Katrantzou in London and at Proenza Schouler, Reed Krakoff, Theyskens’ Theory, and Altuzarra (among others) in New York for Fall. Here, she takes a quick break from work to talk to CR about that career-changing haircut (which is turning out to be a major beauty trend of the season), fashion week, and more.
What inspired you to cut off your long locks?
A picture of Linda Evangelista was the inspiration for the cut. It was done for the Spring 2013 Balenciaga show. Nicolas had three different styles in the show and Guido [Palau] gave me the short, fresh, and edgy look.
How does it make you feel?
I loved the cut! When it first debuted in the show, I felt as if I was showing myself to the fashion world for the first time. Like, “Hi, this is the real me. I’m here! Take me as I am.” It was really my coming out. My hair has grown a bit now, but I still love it. It is so fresh, fun, and easy.
And do you think it really bolstered your career?
Yes, I feel like my new cut really boosted my career and got me noticed more. I have even seen pictures of my new look on mood boards, so I guess other people love it too.
You are two fashion weeks down with two more to go. I have to ask, what is your best fashion week vice?
Cigarettes and English Breakfast Tea.
What is your favorite place to retreat from the craziness of fashion week?
My favorite retreat is the model apartment, where I can spend time with my friends. I love clowning around, dancing, singing, taking stupid photos, and laughing until we are sore. It really makes me forget the stresses of the day.END
