Kenneth Ize emerged from last year’s isolation with an exclusive gender neutral capsule in a special collaboration with the Karl Lagerfeld label, which Carine curated as the house’s Style Advisor. After months of teasing, his first large-scale runway show just four years after starting his eponymous brand is finally here. Similar to the previous collection, the 2019 LVMH prize finalist includes signatures of handwoven aso oke cloth, woven in Ilorin, Nigeria and finished in Italy, as well as vibrant stripes, and crisp separates in button-ups and skirts. He introduces fringe on solid color gowns, tiger stripe prints on easy spring styles, and modern textures in traditional silhouettes.
Ize’s silk striped knitwear is central to the collection, in brighter colors than before that carry onto a blue pinstriped pantsuit and gingham shirts and pants. The finale look showed sophisticated bridal column gown in white asoke with gold embroidered totems on the bodice. The collection is an exciting step forward for the brand, as it continues to build on its heritage with a fresh perspective in each reveal.
“It feels like a new dawn for me,” Ize said at the show. “It’s the cleanest thing I’ve ever done.”
