Creative Director Giuliano Calza brings the surf and sand to Milan Fashion Week with GCDS’ latest whimsical collection with post-pandemic beaching in mind for the inspiration behind the house’s Spring/Summer 2022 season.
The 32-look unisex collection followed a cool-meets-camp aesthetic featuring detailed crochet work, dripping gemstones, and higher-than-high bedazzled platform shoes that all bring to life the house’s signature playful fashion vision. The presentation included a diverse casting that represented the house perfectly, including some of CR‘s favorite faces, like model Ceval Omar and stylist Sita Abellan. Czech-based company Preciosa provided all the oversized faux gemstones that adorned various pieces, including body-hugging crystal-coated chains cascading from certain carments. For the anime fans, Calza incorporated nods to the Japanese cultural art with depictions of characters from “One Piece,” the series produced by Toei Animation.
Elsewhere, accessories were a standout highlight for the house this season in the form of chunky recycled rubber clog shoes, subversive logos hidden into bag chains, artful headwear, and a slew of on-point arm candy. In a conscious effort to control its impact on the fashion industry, the house is introducing a new “green label” for spring including accessories and clothing made from recycled or sustainable materials. With backing from fashionable It-girls like Dua Lipa and Hailey Bieber, the high-octane house’s subversive style has pioneered a budding new era of luxury streetwear on the horizon.
