Raf Simons’ second year as creative director of Prada is prominent in their latest Spring 2022 collection, with various leather jackets being shown in almost all looks at the beginning of the show. The looks are classic to Prada, while still showing Raf’s influence. The core theme of the show was oversized leather jackets of various forms, colorful satin skirts and dresses, mini Prada handbags, and asymmetrical heels.
Shown multiple times throughout the show, a satin mini skirt with a train of various different bright colors was paired with black leather jackets for a femme-rocker look. The pointed-toe, asymmetrical slingback heels, and mini handbags rounded out the look, contrasting the leather jackets with a polished touch. The handbags were much more structured than their past vintage nylon mini handbags and came in square and rectangular shapes with long handles.
Boat neck, midi-length dresses add to the polished and rugged theme of the show, with an untraditional waistline that was scrunched, that added dimension and character to each dress. Similar to the satin skirts, these dresses came in bright and neon shades of pink, yellow, and orange. Paired with the same shoes and handbags, these looks were regal and timeless. The shorter, mini dresses shown in the show had wide-open backs and trains attached to dress that portrayed the contemporary Raf influence of the collection.
At the end of the show, knits and bombers are introduced, in classic silhouettes of button-ups, and the well-known Raf Simons’ Prada bomber. The simplicity of the show embraces the versatility of the collection, which was held in both Milan and Shanghai at the exact same time. “A celebration of fashion and community,” this show displays the true community of fashion with classic roots and urban trends coming together as one.END
