For JW Anderson’s latest collection, Creative Director Jonathan Anderson taps world-renowned artists Juergen Teller as the star and photographer of the house’s Spring/Summer 2022 lookbook. Teller creates a satirical look at fashion’s “pin-up calendars” stripping down to his underwear and camera against rubber tires for a bare-it-all twist on the classic format.
For the first time in two years, fashion month has returned to its in-person events, however Anderson and Teller collaborated on this collection to create a series of printed matter to send out in lieu of a traditional runway show. Staggering images of Teller in his skivvies with models dynamically posing in the collection against an industrial setting, the photos part of the lookbook-meets-calendar are as humorous as they are raw and beautiful.
In terms of the clothes, Anderson notes body-positivity and confidence as one of the inspirations of the collection creating a series of transparent looks for the season. The designer’s coined whimsical approach to fashion shines through in the form of bubbly knitted skirts, upcycled plastic fringe party dresses, and playful circular motifs throughout. “I don’t want to come through this pandemic being the same JW Anderson as before,” the designer wrote on his Instagram during the show. It seems the dawn of a new era at his namesake house is only yet to come.
