Rick Owens loves an homage to the original Converse Chuck Taylor. Many of his sneakers, especially his high tops, are clearly an ode to the Converse high top. But as of today, he no longer just references Converse but actually collaborates with the brand.
The new Converse x Rick Owens DRKSHDW collaboration originally debuted in Venice at the Rick Owens Fall/Winter 2021 show. They marked the occasion with the appearance of the partnership’s first design – the TURBODRK Chuck 70. This collaboration is housed under Owens’ DRKSHDW brand, and the shoe will ultimately be available in both a low top and high top version.
This collaboration is another take by Owens on the iconic Chuck Taylor, but with a bit of reimagining. Bringing together the black and white canvas of Converse and the minimalist luxury of Rick Owens, the two have created a new sneaker, the TURBODRK Chuck 70. Featuring an extended tongue, a double sole and a triple toe cap, the shoe brings back the era of punk rock that Converse high tops have become so synonymous with for decades. Perhaps the biggest change though is the shape of the toe: it’s a square toe sneaker for the first time ever, simultaneously marking the first time the actual shape of the Chuck 70 has changed in the history of Converse.
To mark the launch of the collaboration, multidisciplinary duo Fecal Matter is the face of the campaign, bringing that feeling of punk rock and grotesqueness to the collection. Beyond this campaign and curating social media content, Fecal Matter also sells clothing and accessories on Depop.
