Joining worldwide efforts to virtually celebrate Pride month, Versace has launched Versace x Pride 2020, a limited edition men’s and women’s capsule collection created in support of the LGBTQ community.
The collection is full of summertime essentials, including tank tops, boxer shorts, and sports socks, each embellished with a pop of rainbow. The collection also features swimwear, bucket hats, and pool slides, which stick to Versace tradition, worked in black and adorned with the house logo in rainbow colors.
The collection isn’t Versace’s first foray into Pride celebrations. The brand, founded by Gianni Versace who was a member of the LGBTQ community himself, has long supported LGBTQ rights. In 2019, Donatella Versace rocked the rainbow alongside Lady Gaga at New York Pride celebrations, and was named a Stonewall Ambassador by the not-for-profit organization Pride Live.
In an homage to this organization, an unspecified amount of proceeds from U.S. sales from the Versace x Pride 2020 collection will be donated to Pride Live, to support its work with organizations such as Trans LifeLine, TransLatin@Coalition, and the Brave Space Alliance. Proceeds from European sales will go to Arcigay, an Italian organization rooted in helping combat violence against the LGBTQ community, and promoting programs to improve political and cultural environments.
For Donatella, this cause is close to her heart. “I have always been a strong advocate and supporter of LGBTQ+ rights,” the designer said last June. “I believe that no one should be judged for his or her sexual orientation, but also for the color of their skin or their religious belief. We all need to voice our concern so that everyone can stop living in fear and is free to be whoever they want to be.”
The Versace x Pride 2020 capsule collection is now available online.
