Next month, Joseph Altuzarra will celebrate 10 years since he launched his eponymous brand in New York back in 2008 and to celebrate, the designer tapped 10 of his closest friends both old and new to select archival pieces from his collections and to front the new campaign imagery. He’s calling it The One That Got Away. Among them is Carine, whose classically French aesthetic informed the designer throughout his career.
“All of the women we invited to collaborate for this project embody the Altuzarra woman,” he says. “They are sexy, they are confident, they are strong, and they are powerful. This has been such a special project for me, because it gave me the opportunity to look back at the last 10 years through the eyes of my closest friends and muses.”
Along with Carine, the campaign features Evan Rachel Wood, Caroline Issa, Cindi Leive, Indya Moore, Jenna Lyons, Melanie Huynh, Sarah Rutson, Shu Pei Qin, and Vanessa Traina who all chose clothing pieces emblematic of their personal style. Wood selected a sleek menswear suit, former J. Crew creative Jenna Lyons chose a Spring 2014 blazer, while Carine herself opted to wear her trademark pencil skirt.
Nostalgia is also the word of the moment, as designers have begun reviving their most iconic pieces. Last year, Marc Jacobs brought back his infamous 1993 grunge collection for Perry Ellis while Donatella Versace paid homage to her late brother Gianni for Spring 2018 by sending supers Naomi Campbell and Cindy Crawford down the runway.
The capsule consists of 12 ready-to-wear pieces and three accessories. It’s available exclusively at Barney’s, mytheresa.com, and altuzarra.com.
