In less than two weeks, the longtime CR collaborator—who has brought the likes of Kim Kardashian and Beyonce to the pages of the magazine—will re-locate to London, where he’ll take the helms of Burberry as its new chief creative officer.
Following the exit of Christopher Bailey—who just debuted his final collection after announcing his departure last fall—the appointment brings Tisci and Burberry CEO Marco Gobbetti back together, having worked together at Givenchy previously.
“Riccardo is one of the most talented designers of our time,” Gobbetti said. “His designs have an elegance that is contemporary and his skill in blending streetwear with high fashion is highly relevant to today’s luxury consumer. Riccardo’s creative vision will reinforce the ambitions we have for Burberry and position the brand firmly in luxury.”
So what is to be expected of the British house under one of fashion’s most infamous creatives? Will Burberry continue its hard-to-ignore Gosha Rubchinskiy capsule? Or will it slip into the sweet darkness that Tisci cultivated in his over ten-year-tenure at Givenchy?
Nothing is certain yet, but we cannot wait to see.
Riccardo Tisci’s debut Burberry collection will hit London Fashion Week in September 2018.END
