One of the biggest highlights from Milan Fashion Week this season was Donatella Versace reuniting legendary ’90s supermodels in honor of her late brother Gianni Versace and the 20th anniversary of his death. The Versace Spring/Summer 2018 show featured Gianni’s favorite models, including Claudia Schiffer, Naomi Campbell, Carla Bruni, Helena Christensen, and Cindy Crawford, strutting down the runway in an ode to the late designer.
In another nod to the golden age of the supers, Versace unveiled its Spring 2018 campaign today with a stacked lineup of familiar faces, including Campbell. Linda Evangelista and Christy Turlington, who were notably absent from the reunion show in Milan, also made an appearance in the photos shot by Steven Meisel, whose affiliation with “The Trinity” defined his early career.
The full campaign will debut on December 18, 2017, and spans across multiple generations of supermodels, including Gisele Bündchen, Raquel Zimmerman, and Natalia Vodianova who ruled the runways in the early to mid-aughts, and Gen Z supers CR girl Gigi Hadid and 16-year-old Kaia Gerber. Irina Shaik, Vittoria Ceretti, Cara Taylor, Birgit Kos, Noah Luis Brown, and CR calendar star Grace Elizabeth are also appear in the campaign.
The Spring 2018 collection pays homage to Gianni, who founded the Italian house and helmed the brand for two decades until his death in 1997. Campbell donned a metallic gold dress for the campaign, while pop art, animal motifs and Gianni’s iconic “Medusa” pattern found their way into silk scarves, jackets, and shirts. “Naomi had to be by my side for this very special campaign celebrating Gianni….She is family to me,” Versace said. “It has been amazing shooting this campaign surrounded by all of my friends and some of Gianni’s to whom this collection is a tribute. I felt so many different emotions at the same time, but they were all very positive.”END
