After Raf Simons departed from Dior due to a contractual disagreement, speculation pointed towards his future at the American house of Calvin Klein. Today, WWD reports that the rumor has finally been confirmed.
Calvin Klein’s former artistic directors Francisco Costa and Italo Zucchelli both stepped down from the house in April, meaning that Raf will be responsible for all of the house’s women’s and men’s brands. With the rising popularity of European brands like Vetements and Alessandro Michele’s new look at Gucci, insiders feel that Raf’s new placement will help to even the score for New York fashion.
Known for his minimalist, intellectual approach to design Simons does seem like an ideal candidate for Calvin Klein—a house that had been aggressively targeting the millennial audience under Costa. Will the Kendall and Bieber campaigns cease?
Simons will continue his work for his eponymous label which is still scheduled to present in September.
