Ever walk down the street and notice how cool someone’s bike is? If you haven’t already, after the release of the Palm Angels x MATE E-bike, you won’t be able to stop noticing this one.
The Danish E-bike brand has teamed up with Palm Angels in its latest effort to become the most fashion-forward E-bike brand on the market. It all started with a conversation between Palm Angels founder Francesco Ragazzi and MATE co-owner Michael Lillelund about a year ago and quickly evolved into this newest collaboration, which includes both a bike and an apparel collection to elevate your lifestyle.
“It was such a great process working with Palm Angels on the project,” Lillelund told CR. “The whole team is just super creative, and the two brands have so much in common; it was a very natural fit.”
Known for its take on street culture and streetwear, Palm Angels has long used identity and culture at the heart of its brand to tell a story. This collaboration is no different, celebrating true characters and classic cool vibes: Palm Angels looks to the urban attitude of Californians to create a whole lifestyle.
“For me, this collaboration is a result of a collective passion for visual expression and an unapologetic mindset,” Lillelund said. “Together with Francesco’s vision of shaping the most avant-garde outfit made for riding, we’ve accomplished a capsule that puts forward sheer attitude and carefree comfort in being yourself.”
The bike itself is as smooth of a ride as it is cool. The flashy mirrored silver steel Palm Angels x MATE E-bike is customized by the Palm Angels and MATE logo, placed on both sides of the vehicle structure. The newly created PM initials are on the front to merge the two identities and long black leather fringes are featured on the handles. To complete the collection, the clothing line includes a sweatshirt, a cotton T-shirt, and a canvas vest, with a Palm patch, stitched on the MATE woven signature.
“I am very proud to present this collaboration, my goal is always to launch lifestyle projects, to create experiences that connect the brand and the audience in an emotional way,” said Ragazzi.
Previously, MATE has collaborated with Moncler as well.
“I think collaborations are a great way to enter new markets. Instead of building that market from scratch, you enter with a tier-one brand. This approach also effectively boosts the news value of a young brand like MATE who wants to always offer something new and fresh,” Lillelund said.
As it forges forward its quest to be the most fashionable E-bike ever, MATE will continue to curate a lifestyle for its customers. Siblings Julie Kronstrøm Carton and Christian Adel Michael founded the brand and kickstarted its success with the foldable MATE.BIKE on a crowdfunding platform. As one of the most successfully crowdfunded brands ever, the Copenhagen-based startup likely isn’t going anywhere anytime soon — today, it’s known for its fast, flexible, head-turning effect and iconic award-nominated exclusive danish design with an affordable price tag.
“MATE is so much more than just a bike,” Lillelund said. “We deliver unexpected emotions and means of expression. With this collaboration, we salute the unapologetic; we celebrate true characters!”
