In a culture ruled by content and a particular period of required accessibility, never before have our cellular devices been more important. They are the first thing we grab out the door (back when going places was still a thing), and the last thing we say goodnight to before bed. For the brave few that actively monitor their screen time usage, one thing is certain: we’re addicted to our phones.
So when I upgraded from my worn-out iPhone X to the larger-than-life (or at least life as I knew it) iPhone 11 Pro Max, I was shocked—in a good way. With a 6.5-inch OLED Super Retina XDR display size resolution (that’s 458 pixels per inch), the device is the biggest and, well, simply the best iPhone released thus far.
Finished with a matte-glass and armed with a stainless steel sideband, the phone arrives in four colors with up to 512 GB of storage. But more than its amped up battery life—which at an impressive 12-14 hour average, its amazing don’t get me wrong—the phone features an army of unexpected updates that make it a necessity for any fashion professional.
Most importantly, the 11 Pro Max boasts Apple’s first triple-camera system—wide, ultra-wide, and telephone—more lenses for cutting edge tech, resulting in even better quality images. Meaning you’re covered for anything from a runway show to seamless product photoshoots. The photos, which can be captured in various modes from 120-degree Wide Shots to low-light Night Mode to the now-infamous Portrait setting all look professional, and 4K video features an extended dynamic range with tools like stabilization (basically your own steady cam) at 60 FPS. Even better: selfies have a new definition: the new 12MP TrueDepth camera allows for slow-mo selfies or HQ stills that auto zooms in and out with the rotation of the device. As the phone-maker says, “Yes, even selfies can be Pro.”
Of course, there are a million and one other updates under the hood of the 11 Pro Max—like its A13 Bionic chip that allows for machine learning and a 20 percent faster CPU—but as far as as we’re concerned the phone had our hearts with a click of the camera button and its rapid photo editing software. Perfect for the time when physical fashion shows resume or even for just right now, engaging with others safely through the screen.
