With the pandemic igniting a rapid shutdown of film festivals worldwide, YouTube has found a way to keep the magic of these events alive by hosting a special online program titled, We Are One: A Global Film Festival. The virtual event will include contributions from 20 international film festivals, such as Berlin, Toronto, BFI London, Tribeca, Mumbai, and Sundance, featuring top quality films available to stream for free.
The online festival came about following Robert De Niro and Jane Rosenthal’s decision to cancel the annual Tribeca Film Festival, which they co-founded. Rosenthal said, “We often talk about film’s uniquely powerful role in inspiring and uniting people across borders and differences to help heal the world–We Are One: A Global Film Festival unites curators, artists, and storytellers to entertain and provide relief to audiences worldwide. In working with our extraordinary festival partners and YouTube we hope that everyone gets a taste of what makes each festival so unique and appreciates the art and power of film.”
We Are One: A Global Film Festival is set to stream from May 29 through June 7. The festival will show films, shorts, documentaries, music, and conversations, with a full schedule being released closer to the official start date.END
