Helen Mirren’s Roles as a Royal

START

Known for her work in theater, film, and television, Helen Mirren is one of the few performers to hold the title of the Triple Crown of Acting, having won an Academy Award, Emmy Award, and Tony Award. The versatile actress began her career with the Royal Shakespeare Company in 1967, and since then has received numerous awards, a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and the title of Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire for her services to drama. Although she’s now primarily known for her Academy Award-winning performance as Queen Elizabeth II in The Queen, she also portrayed Queen Elizabeth I in 2005, making her the only actress to have played both Queens Elizabeth on screen. Even predating her most memorable royal roles, the actress has been portraying nobility since 1974. In honor of Mirren’s 73rd birthday, CR looks back at her royal roles throughout her 50-year career.
