Despite a long list of designers who have said they will refuse to dress First Lady Melania Trump, according to Page Six, boxes of free clothing continues to pile up in the lobby of Trump Tower. Apparently the fashion industry isn’t as galvanized against Trump as it once appeared. Designers who have said they refuse to dress Melania include Tom Ford, Zac Posen, and Marc Jacobs.
Most recently, Mrs. Trump wore Dolce & Gabbana while accompanying the President to Sicily. She made headlines for wearing the ,000 Dolce & Gabbana coat covered in flowers. The jacket isn’t in stores yet, but the pre-order on Moda Operandi has already sold out.
It set off a firestorm of criticism on social media from commenters who called out her ostentation as being in stark contrast with her husband’s appeals to the everyman. Old habits die hard, conspicuous wealth has been the Trump brand for many years. After all, she still lives in the gilded penthouse atop Trump Tower, not the White House.
