2021 is clearly the year of Dua Lipa. On the cusp of Future Nostalgia ruling the top charts and being crowned an official Versace girl, the English singer is approaching her latest installment of world domination on the silver screen. Matthew Vaughn’s latest film, a spy thriller titled Argylle, will star Dua Lipa. Is she the next James Bond?
In addition to acting alongside Samuel L. Jackson, Henry Cavill, John Cena, Catherine O’Hara, and more, Dua Lipa is putting her musical talents to use by contributing to the film’s score. Argylle is based on a soon-released novel by Ellie Conway, which follows the worldwide adventures of a preeminent spy. Filming begins in Europe this August, and will continue for quite some time as Argylle is only the first edition of a triple-movie franchise.
But Dua Lipa is not the only star breaking into film. Kaia Gerber, best known for her modeling, is taking on her second and largest screen role on American Horror Story‘s next season. Additionally, The Weeknd surprised fans in June by announcing his new show on HBO titled The Idol, for which he serves as writer, producer, and star. Petra Collins, the renowned photographer who recently created Olivia Rodrigo’s “Good 4 U” music video, is working with Euphoria producer Phoebe Fisher and Melissa Broder to write and direct her first full length movie called Spiral. The chilling psychological thriller captures the dark future of influencer careers and stars Selena Gomez.
Overlap between fashion, film, art, and music is certainly not unusual, yet the crossover always seems to carry an element of surprise. But after Dua Lipa’s whirlwind of success this year, CR has no doubt that her performance on screen will be anything short of unstoppable.
