Quarantine just got so much better with the release of Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande’s new music video for their joint single “Rain On Me.” The video arrived from the stratosphere today, just hours after the song’s midnight release. “Rain On Me” is the second track on Gaga’s upcoming album Chromatica, which is due to drop on May 29. An homage to the joy of dancing in the rain, the video adopts the intergalactic aesthetic of other promotional material for Gaga’s new album, such as the music video for its first track, “Stupid Love.”
Latex is abound in the fetish-inspired wardrobes of both singers throughout the video, which is packed with dramatic costume changes. Gaga dances her way through a bubblegum pink color scheme, channeling a dominatrix in a custom-made latex bodysuit by Vex. Unafraid of sky-high heels, she wears silver platform boots in another scene, and tops them with a studded suit wrapped in chains in yet another. Grande also wears a black latex dress by Vex with a butterfly-winged mini skirt, and later emerges in a lavender ensemble and neon eyeliner that matches Gaga’s.
The song resembles pop hits of the early 2000s, with both singers blending in harmony while remaining true to their artistic personas. Grande, for one, wears her signature high ponytail, while Gaga amps up the theatrics with a pseudo leg-stabbing, only to get back up and continue dancing. Backed by a squad of fierce dancers, the singers seemingly combine their stardom to create a truly out-of-this-world spectacle.
Gaga and Grande have been pumping each other up on all social media platforms and fans are reveling in their blossomed friendship. At the end of the video, the star-powered sisterhood is apparent, as they catch their breath in an embrace while smiling and laughing at the camera.END
