As far as we know, there’s almost no such thing as effortless beauty. From facial treatments that leave your complexion dewy and luminous to the perfect winged eyeliner, experts reveal their most-trusted, insider hacks for CR‘s series, Beauty Secrets.
Miranda Kerr’s holistic approach to beauty has always been close to her. From learning about noni at a young age, the fruit from which many of Kora Organics products are derived, to considering what ingredients are safe to use on her own children, a focus on health and natural sourcing have been central to Kerr’s approach to wellness and skincare. The model, mother, and clean beauty mogul launched Kora in her home country of Australia in 2009, before the clean beauty craze made it to the U.S. Now, a decade later, Kora is available in 25 countries across the globe and is the only certified organic brand stocked in Sephora stores.
If you need any proof of the efficacy of organic, look no further than Kerr’s own glowing complexion. With a beauty regimen stacked with Kora products from beginning to end, Kerr keeps her skincare streamlined and natural. The new Noni Night AHA Resurfacing Serum is one of her current favorites, especially to help with her post-pregnancy pigmentation. Here, Kerr tells CR more about this and more, including why she loves noni and what products she shares with her kids.
Can you tell me about the noni glow and the special ingredient behind it?
“My grandmother introduced me to noni. I’ve been drinking noni juice since I was about 13. It has over 100 vitamins and minerals. It’s full of antioxidants, and it really is the key to my health from the inside and outside. I believe in the whole 360 approach about nurturing your mind, your body, your spirit, and that’s what I tried to incorporate with Kora. Every one of our products contains noni itself. The noni fruit is known for its anti-aging benefits. It’s anti-bacterial, it’s anti-inflammatory, it’s anti-fungal, it helps your immune response, it has high amounts of vitamin A and vitamin C. My grandmother would give me a little shot of noni, 30 milliliters, everyday. If I ever had a sunburn or a breakout, I would put it on my skin. So that’s why its the key ingredient across the whole range, and why it’s the backbone–the source of vitamins and minerals for every product–working synergistically with other ingredients to create powerful results.”
Why is clean beauty important to you?
“People don’t even realize the amount of chemicals they put into their body with the products they use, but this is something we can control. If we can use products that are going to give us the same results, if not better, then that is one less thing we are putting into our body. There are so many things we cannot control, like the pollution when we step outside. But what we put on our skin soaks into our bloodstream, and adds to the health and well-being of our bodies, so if we can use products that are healthy for us, that help our bodies detoxify, that give us results, it’s a no-brainer to me because why wouldn’t you?”
How has being a mother affected your approach to skincare and beauty?
“All the body products I use on the babies, and I have since my nine-year-old was born. I use the [Kora] body wash, the body lotion, and the body oil on them. It’s great to have products you can use for the whole family. It makes it very convenient for bath time, shower time, and whatnot. I know that it’s healthy for them, it helps their skin, and it helps my skin, so that’s great. It’s also been incredible to see that since I’ve had children, the pigmentation issues that came up around when I first had my son, in the last two years we were able to create two powerful products, the Noni Night serum and the vitamin C serum, that really target that without chemicals. My pigmentation has never looked better. It’s almost to the point where I don’t need to wear makeup, which is something I really enjoy, because I don’t like to wear makeup unless I have to.”
When you do put on makeup, what products do your reach for?
“I use RMS concealer [shade] 22, and if I have to cover my whole face I’ll put in a drop of the Noni Glow Face Oil, mix it with a brush, and then put that on my face. It gives a beautiful, natural glow on your skin. I use the Kora Organics Rose Quartz Luminizer, because it gives a little bit of a pink hue around the eyes. I use RMS lipstick in Rapture, which is great and I can put a little bit on top of my eyes as well, and that’s about it. Depending on where I’m going, if I need something a little more heavyweight I’ll put on Charlotte Tilbury’s mascara or more natural day to day, the RMS mascara.”
